When you phone the surgery

Use the same phone number as you currently use. In the future we will be changing the telephone system so you dial one number and then choose which branch you would like to speak to. This means you can make an appointment at which ever branch you require

Internet access

will remain the same but appointments will reflect all sites, so you can make appointments at any of the three sites: Sussex Road, Magdalen Way or Hopton

What impact will the merger have on you the patient?

Very little it’s just business as usual but you will have more choice on where you can be seen.

GP services set to improve as practices merge

Two Gorleston GP practices are joining forces to improve the services which patients receive while continuing to meet increasing demand for healthcare.

Central Healthcare Centre, in Sussex Road, and Gorleston Medical Centre, at Shrublands in Magdalen Way, will merge and work together from 1 October. Hopton Surgery, which is a branch surgery of Gorleston Medical Centre, will also be part of the new partnership, which will be known as The Beaches Medical Centre.

All three existing sites will continue to operate, with patients able to book at an appointment at any of the surgeries. Patients do not need to take any action ahead of the merger and can continue to access healthcare as normal.

The merger is taking place to help the practices, which together look after 25,000 registered patients, meet increasing demand for healthcare services by sharing staff and pooling resources.

Computer systems at the branches will also be linked, which means that patients will be able to receive care at any of the three sites as medical staff will be able to access their records.

Dawn Barnham, practice manager at Gorleston Medical Centre, which also includes Hopton Surgery, said: “This merger will give us the chance to work together to provide even better services for the 25,000 patients registered with our surgeries.

“By joining forces, we can improve efficiency by making the best use of our time and resources, as well as offering patients more flexibility about where they have their appointment. We truly believe this merger will allow us to offer more to our patients than we would be able to do alone.”

Dawn Reeve, practice manager at Central Healthcare Centre, said: “We are committed to providing high quality GP services and would like to assure our patients that they will continue to receive the same level of care when this merger is complete.

“By working together, we should be able to provide patients with greater continuity of care. Joining forces will also ensure we can make the most effective use of our resources, in turn future-proofing the services we provide for our patients.”

The new name for the merged practices was chosen by staff, who were asked for suggestions and then given the opportunity to vote for a winner.
